Birth Story for Shiloh
Shiloh was a quarantine baby. Now, this was my 3rd baby, so I’d been through the ropes before. I knew what to expect. I had an emergency plan in place just in case as you do for every birth, but I had a lot of anxiety about something going wrong because hospitals were not equipped just with supplies at that time, let alone equipped with mental health services. Hospitals were quarantining newborns from mom, moms were giving birth alone for containment purposes… It was very scary and I knew I did NOT want to go to the hospital at all. Misty yet again, was amazing.
Shiloh was born April 29th, 2020 at 1:42 p.m. at 40 weeks 1 day. 7 lbs 7 oz and 21 inches long.
Shiloh was by far my easiest labor and birth despite my birth being closer to 57 hours. My husband fell asleep for every baby right at the very end until he was either punched by me or gently woken up by Misty, but Misty was my rock the entire time. She was my midwife, my mental health coach, my doula, and my friend.
Even through telehealth appointments, Misty walked me through how to properly use my doppler to find the heartbeat, how to check my blood pressure, how to read the urine samples, how to check for gestational diabetes, etc. We talked about what it would look like if I went into labor before 37 weeks, what a transfer would look like and what role she would play if I had to be transferred for medical purposes and all of that. I’ve always been thankful for Misty, but with this being my rainbow baby and all happening during the pandemic, I was very relieved that I had Misty on my side. I am very lucky to not have a horrific pandemic birth story like so many of my friends and acquaintances had. The day was relaxed and wonderful.
